Well the biggest part of this episode happens right at the beginning. You see once again as Nappa launches his attack at Gohan, but Piccolo steps into the blast to save him. Gohan is the son of his arch nemesis, and he saves him. He even says Gohan is like the friend he never had. You got to admit this was a touching moment as Piccolo died, and just to make it worse Kami died along with him. Popo and Gohan watched in tears as their green best friends died… definitely one of the saddest moments in DBZ history. One thing I noticed though when Piccolo got in front of the blast his legs were wide open, and looked like it had enough room to hit Gohan… not a plot hole, but think how bad that would of sucked if it killed both of them. But this was also really sad because you finally had hope as Goku approached the battle, but then Piccolo dies, almost ending that hope. Gohan then out of rages fires a Maseko beam at Nappa, but even at a power level of 3000 he hits it away with nothing but a numb arm. Gohan is drained of energy, but stands tired saying he won’t let Piccolo down. Then Nappa raises his boot above Gohan about to crush him but… GOKU SAVES HIM! Finally! As the happy music played and Goku landed it was just a moment to make you smile. But think of what would of happened if he’d arrived like ten minutes ago, Piccolo and Kami would be alive! But none of that is on your mind as Goku does the classic I don’t give a damn walk, and walks past Goku and Vegeta to corpse Piccolo. Kind of his arch nemesis, so I can get why he wouldn’t get all rage mode after seeing that, but he saw Tien and Yamcha to! Oh well, the super mode will come don’t worry. Goku walks past Nappa again and restores Krillen and Gohan back to mostly full strength by making them split a Senzu Beam. He turns and walks up to Nappa and Vegeta by himself. These little walks are always amazing DBZ moments cause it shows how uncaring Goku is, even if he’s the weaker man. He powers up in front of Nappa, and then the big moment happens! "Vegeta, what did you say his power level is?”
"IT”S OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!”
This is probably the biggest line in DBZ, and a reference between nerds everywhere. Unfortunately my version it’s not nearly as epic, and Vegeta doesn’t scream as loud, but IT’S STILL EPIC! The episode ends with a little bit of Goku beating the crap out of Nappa, and it really is fulfilling to watch as Goku avenges his friends. In the end this episode is great, not quite up to elite standards, but still great for two very famous moments as well as Goku’s infamous arrival.
