Episode 23 Review (Saibamen Attack!)

 Episode 23 Review (Saibamen Attack!)

THE NUMBER TWENTY-THREE! Okay back to Dragonball Z, this episode is all about the Saibamen, the little green monsters grown in the last episode. So much so the episode is named after them. It’s kind of a quick shift after twenty-one episodes thinking they’d be fighting the Saiyans and now as a preshow fighting the Saibamen, but as long as the Saiyans come nobody really cares. The Saibamen quickly start a fight, but unfortunately Gohan gets his first hit due to being scared… was Piccolo not scary enough during training! But you really feel for him, and can understand why he’s scared. Luckily right after the small quick match Tien and Chiaotzu arrive. Yamcha even makes a little cool entrance… just hold your breath. Now that the battle is six against six, it is now a one on one contest. And meanwhile Nappa is just blowing his second news helicopter. Humans are really dumb in DBZ, maybe they’re just really pro-alien. I mean makes sense all the losers are humans. Yamcha and Krillen I’m calling you out! And although all this fighting is going on, it seems to shift a little more than I’d like. It’s going to semi-important things like Yajirobe and Chi-Chi and the others watching at home, which is a nice break, but I want some fighting! But I got what I wanted the second I did, and Tien and Saibamen uno fought. Tien easily won, and it was revealed that they were the same strength as Raditz. But as uno was getting up, Vegeta blows it in a pile of organs. (It’s gross) And for a second match Yamcha fights Saibamen dos. While during the fight Piccolo tells Gohan something important. He tells him he shouldn’t look for the fight with his eyes, but with sensing. He tells him to look for the light their energy gives out. So basically the stronger you are, the more able you are to pick up energy. I always thought that was a cool part of DBZ, and made it feel realistic. As the fight with Yamcha and the second saibamen rages on, Yamcha quickly defeats the other saibamen. But then a very famous moment in DBZ happens. The Saibamen jumps from it’s grave, latches onto Yamcha and self destructs killing them both. The saibamen are green suicide bombers! Yamcha after a year of training didn’t even get to fight the Saiyans, and even though it’s sad it’s a little pathetic. Get it together Yamcha, you know, the next time you die. But I think what really made it all the more sad were the scenes following it. The damn violins were playing, Bulma and Puar were crying their eyes out, and in the end it hangs on what Krillen’s about to do. I don’t like these cliff hanger endings cause they don’t make the episode as a whole stand out, but in the end this was a hell of a way to kick off the fight against the Saiyans. And with two saibamen down and one Z-warrior dead, the future results could be anything.
