Kick-Ass Review

 Kick-Ass Review
Starring: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Mark Strong, Nicholas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Director: Mathew Vaughn
Year: 2010

I’m going to be the cheesy loser who says the dumb ass line every other loser says: kick-ass kicks ass. At first I thought Kick-Ass was a comedy, but it’s more like a really funny action movie. I like to think the first half introduces the characters and plot, but does it using comedy, and the second half is when shit gets serious and the action kicks in. There is not a single character in this movie who isn’t awesome. Kick-Ass is really the average kid who likes superheroes. He isn’t the crowd favorite, but he is an essential role that gives comedy moments in the beginning and dramatic ones towards the end. Red Mist is possibly the funniest character. To me he will always be called Mclovin, but I would easily excuse calling him Red Mist. His dad Frank Domico is also amazing, and proves that just because you have hundreds of most wanted henchmen doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands dirty. Big daddy proves Nicholas can act, just if he is supported well and gets the right role, and Hit Girl… do I really need any more prove than the movie to prove that a eleven year old girl can be a bad ass. Yes, an eleven year old girl kicks more ass in this movie than anybody else. Hit girl is the one who supposedly stole the show, which she did, but that doesn’t mean these other characters are allowed to be put to the side. Kick-Ass made me laugh my ass off, made awesome wowing moments, and wildly entertaining. The movie begins in a monologue, one from Kick-Ass that happens periodically throughout the film. Monologues can  be annoying, but in this I felt the gaps between them were lengthy, and I wasn’t telling Kick-Ass to shut up constantly like I was to Bella in Twilight. Kick-Ass doesn’t even seem to have any problems as I look back on it. It did have a romance, one that was a little to average compared to the rest of the movie. It was just kind of put in there a little bit, and took up to much time. Not a bad decision, but a tiny setback when looking on the rest of the awesomeness. If it was a terrible movie I would say "at least the romance is decent.” Kick-Ass is one of those movies that can only be described as bad ass, because other descriptions are way to hard. The next movie store I got into should have a genre called bad ass, and trust me, Kick-Ass will have a worthy place on that shelf.

Kick-Ass gets a 5/5

Spoilers: I realized something as I watched this movie again so I could review it for you guys. I realized whenever I thought of things that would be good to talk about for a spoiler review, I only thought "hey, I’ll mention that,” while during fighting scenes. When hit girl killed a Grover look alike, I really got a kick out of that. Take that Brandon for taking on a role you don’t fit for! Speaking of which, Hit Girl and Big Daddy are fucking assholes. I get why they’re fucked up killers, but that one scene where the guy died in the car was a little to much. Kick-Ass isn’t a dark comedy, so slow down on that. But if I do an awards for Kick-Ass, I think the nominees for best moment would stretch on for awhile. I think one of the many movies I’d like to do a commentary for is Kick-Ass, because every moment brings a nice reaction.
