Episode 78 Review (Naruto’s Ninja Handbook)

Yes! Normal name title, and finally a good ass episode that isn’t slow! There is little wrong with this episode, and it pulled me out of the Naruto seven out of ten slump. It’s Naruto vs. Gaara, and no, it’s not spanning across a dozen episodes, so much happens in this episode alone. It’s all fighting, and I like that they didn’t add extra episodes for the purpose of doing it. Naruto using the Shadow Clone jutsu beats the hell out of Gaara, and takes him down. But Gaara finally reaches a full possession, and the demon inside him comes forth. I’m not entirely sure yet on how it all really works, but soon he falls asleep and the demon is let out. (The demon only immerges when Gaara sleeps, but since he never does, it never gets out) But Naruto having used all his shadow clones, uses the Nine-Tailed Fox’s chakra to summon Gamabunta. Gamabunta charges in, and then the fight between Gaara’s demon vs. Naruto’s… toad begins! By the way, I love how Gaara’s demon rather than being all evil like he is, is actually "funky,” as they call him. Anyway, the fight rages on, and Gamabunta says all Naruto has to do is hit Gaara to wake him up. But to do that Gamabunta has to be close, and also he can’t do that cause he has no fangs or claws to dig into the enemy. So Naruto uses the transformation jutsu to turn him into a false version of the Nine-Tailed Fox. It’s like a little forced in dream fight, but it’s still so awesome! I am just so happy that the series after episodes of running around in trees and back-stories gave an actually exciting episode that didn’t just make seven percent progress of the fight. With how things were going I half expected filler to be put somewhere, but no, it dug itself out of any hole it made, and capitalized on giving a episode that left a jolt. Yes, when the last time a jolt was described in these reviews? Probably never, and besides the Shikamaru episode I haven’t felt the quick speed the show should move in since maybe the Land of Waves, and it feels really good. Naruto is a long anime, and like long anime it has amazing moments, but takes much longer to get across. But like longer books or video games, that doesn’t mean over a long period of time the product sucks, in fact it’s possibly amazing, and this episode just made me sigh in relief from any annoyance I felt about the show lately, although I’m sure it’ll be back soon. But for now, it’s an elite moment.
