Fable Anniversary Review
Fable Anniversary Review
Genre: Action RPG
Developer: Lionhead Studios
Year: 2014
Ten years ago, Fable came out, and it became a classic for
me. The world, the style, the RPG aspects, it was all knew to me. And I loved
it, as you can see in my Fable review. But of course in the new internet age,
and in the business of making a quick buck, the game was rereleased. Like many
games before it, and much like the others, this is the new best way to play an
old classic. I remember coming back to Fable one time, and thinking to myself,
"Man, these graphics kind of suck.” Of course when you go from new game to new
game, and are used to quality rising, you are more aware of the past’s lack of
technology. But of course with a rerelease, we have a knew way to play. And for
the graphics, it looks great. This is my first HD rerelease, and it’s just
super cool, especially since is my old game being remade, and I’m sure that’s
how it is for a lot of people. There old games they loved being updated. And
yeah, since this isn’t the Playstation "HD Collection” I was hoping they’d do
more. I mean this is only one game after all. I mean the name HD is not in the
title, they’re free to do whatever the hell they want to. Add a mission or two,
it’s not like anybody would object. But whatever, there is new. Completely
updated character models, new menus, and extremely better loading screen. But
even some of those aren’t better. Some of the characters just look… weird. I
know I’m so used to the hold ones, but at one point they’re just ugly, and this
is for players who are used to the old ones. That, and the menus took some
getting used to. I liked the old leveling up better. Also, glitches. I was
finding it just hard to run for a good percent of the game. That shouldn’t be
acceptable in a game ten years old. Also, achievements. I know some say they’re
useless. Bullshit, because I did things I never have in game I replay every
couple of years. I actually collected silver keys, actually sacrificed people
to the temple, actually did things I never would have. There is innocent fun in
that, and it brings some of the best features out of the game. I will say this
is the most fun I’ve had with Fable since playing it for the first time. But in
the end, this is just an update of a single game, which is less than the
competitors. And it’s not an amazing one at that. They did add new things, but
of course you have to buy it as DLC, and that doesn’t count in the review. In
the end, it was still a nice experience seeing this old game in its new prime. It’s
nice for it to be available on a new platform, and getting it attention all
over again. So pick this up when it gets cheap, or like me and got it early if
you’re a big fan, either way, it’s worth it. Dust off this decade long game in
a new way.
