Episode 49 Review (Lee’s Hidden Strength: Forbidden Secret Jutsu!)

One thing before I begin that I didn’t mention in the other episode was how they forced Kankuro to watch the fight next to Naruto. He went over there for "recon,” but in reality that was so they could explain Gaara’s powers to the audience. It obviously wouldn’t make sense if Kankuro explained it to his teammates, but do you really have to force it like that? It was so obvious to me. But all right, back to the episode. Turns out this isn’t a two part episode, but a three. It actually skipped the emotional moments so they could fill them into this match, and when they do they show Lee as a kid getting picked on, and Guy taking him under his wing and supervising his training. With Naruto it’s about him overcoming his doubters, with Hinata overcoming her fears, and Lee overcoming being a loser. His wanting to become a splendid ninja even with out the other types of jutsu are that way of proving he isn’t a loser, as that’s why he got picked on by other kids. And I bet you thought he was a loser too! But no, he proves in this episode he’s not a loser! Or at least completely. This has very little fighting but after the lotus he’s pretty worn out, and hanging on. But apparently, "the lotus blooms twice,” and then he’s able to enter gates. There are eight inner gates apparently, and he can access five. If the first gate made him exhausted, you can guess when he’s in the eight gate and able to overcome the Hokage what that does to him. Anyway the episode ends just as Lee enters the third gate I believe, and cliffhanger. It’s actually an eight for me, as it gave Lee a really good side story and we learned about his jutsu. It was just a really good episode, and a good back-story for the who Lee and Guy thing. Although how well they made Gaara look like a bad ass, you really are just like, "Okay, he just used a cheat code and is probably going to win. Well played Lee.”
