Walt Kowalski (Gran Torino) Review

Synopsis: All right, I haven’t done a character review in a long time, and since I’ve decided character reviews will go like this: however the hell it goes. There is not going to be any proper format, I’m just going to cover everything I feel like needs covering. Okay, getting on with it. Walt’s attitude is pretty easy. On surface he’s a old senile old man. But go a little deeper he’s a really agitated and hard to get to know man who’s not rough around the edges, but hard as steel. And of course he’ll judge you for just about anything. But then if you go even deeper, then you’ll start to notice he actually can do a good thing, but good luck getting that far. He’s that one dick head old man who saw as a kid then saw he was doing something really nice for somebody. Walt’s a Korean Vet, and he also holds the movie together like glue. Every character has scenes with Walt, and characters like Thao, the dog, the grandmother, Walt’s kids, they’re characters are shown through Walt’s relationship with them. The characters reviews are kind of based off what the character has to be, and are judged on how well they filled their shoes. And as Walt is the central of the movie, he has big shoes to fill, and he nails it. And Walt is the kind of guy that will mow his lawn, knowing hours later he will die. And Walt has some pretty awesome dialogue. And what would Walt be without the Gran Torino the movie’s name is based off it? The Gran Torino represents Walt’s person, and what I got out of it was it was his pride and joy.
