So with Zuko on the team, you
assume all things are go for firebending. But Zuko has lost his heat… okay he
lost his firebending ability and they realize they have to try and discover firebending
the old fashioned way. There going to where the sun warriors learned
firebending from the dragons so long ago. (eh, the later Legend of Korra
episode kind of interferes with that, but it doesn’t completely destroy
anything in the episode) And then they arrive on Indiana Jones island, and its
booby trapped. And just walking around, you see this really beautiful island,
and then they stumble on this really cool room where these statues are making a
circle, showing a form for an old dance. And they do it, and it reveals some
kind of jewel that we never learn about. (It looked like a dragon egg to me,
but that’s just me theory) But it turns into a trap, and they get stuck. But
then an old sun warrior who were thought to be extinct long ago just like the
dragons. But the warriors after hearing Zuko allow Aang and Zuko to take a part
of the most ancient fire (the first fire) to the masters. And when they do, it
turns out the masters are dragons. Turns out Iroh, who was said to have killed
the last dragon, fought them, was allowed to live with their secret, and
secured their safety by telling them they were asleep. So Aang and Zuko do the
dance in front of them as a next best thing, and the dragons moved in symmetry
with them. And the dragons let out a fire that’s probably one of the most if
not the most beautiful fire I’ve seen in any entertainment media. And before
they leave, they look at fire in a whole other light, and its really defending
fire in a new light, and it really is nice to finally see. I feel this story
with the sun warriors and dragons, and saying things like fire is a life, and
an energy, and a sun in you, those were way to change how fire looked in this
show. I loved this episode, and it really looked beautiful. This area was one
we didn’t really see much in Avatar. Also, Aang and Zuko having an episode
together was great. It’s the villains and hero side by side, going through this
classic journey that feels like its own story on its own. I was really
satisfied with this episode, and have little complaints. Sokka seemed a little
annoying in this episode for some reason, and for how awesome it is when I
think about it, the execution could have been better in some areas. Anyway,
still loved the episode, one of the best of the season.
