Eli Review

Eli (The Book of Eli) Review

"Lay that hand on me again and you will not get it back."
SPOILERS

Goals: Eli's only goal in the movie is carry his book west. At parts you can sense that he wants to help others, but in the end puts the book first.
Interests (hobbies): Besides listening to music, Eli doesn't show many interests.
Romance: None
Usual weapons/strategies/armor: On his person he has a bow, sword, and gun. Throughout the movie he shoots after the enemy shoots, most likely due to his blindness.
Group: None.
Background: Eli was just another person alive when the bombs fell. He heard a voice in his head telling him the location of a book, and the voice then told him to go west, which he's been doing ever since.
Purpose for product: Eli is the main protagonist, and since his name is in the title he plays a large role. He takes most screen-time, and makes the biggest impact in the movie.
Actor/voice actor: Denzel Washington
Deceased

Personal Experience with character: Eli is my favorite character in the movie, and I think his simple blindness is a reason to see the movie again. I plan to make a top ten, or maybe top five character list for this movie one day, and you know Eli will make the top of the list.

The Book of Eli: Eli acts as a great main protagonist for the movie. He is carrying the last copy of the bible west, and yet isn't a religious fanatic, which makes the movie not feel like it's only for religious people. He is also a great bad-ass. He fights so smoothly, and I like that he only fights after the enemy goes at him. He clearly has a great sense of hearing and smelling, which is indicated a lot if you watch closely. (he smells the early group of enemies, hears the bird he shoots, and shoots things like the cat only after they make a noise.) I also love his relation ship with Solara, and Carnegie. Carnegie and him have a awesome relationship, and when these two have conversations it's like two titans going at it, but with words rather than weapons. They mostly just disagree, rather than have some vendetta or half-ass rivalry. The other is just an obstacle to the other. Eli needs to go west, and just needs to overcome Carnegie. Carnegie wants this book he's wanted desperately, and needs to get it from Eli. Solara and Eli also seem to have great conversations. I can't give Eli the character badge, as I think only two great character relationships isn't enough, but I have to say he does make me want to give it to him. On a final note, I have to say that Eli gets the job done, and more.

Eli gets a 4/5
