Rap God was one of the singles from the Marshall Mathers LP 2, and it was sort of the single I was asking for. All I know was I wanted a hard rap song with tons of flows and lyrics, and yeah, that’s what I got. I didn’t really need it for me, but I wanted him to do that because I thought after Recovery he would need it, and it would be good because aside from the tracks on Hell: the Sequel, he hasn’t had a lot of really hard rap songs. But yeah, he delivered, and this song had a lot of good feedback from other people in the more hardcore rap community (a lot more than the other singles anyway) I’ll talk about the bad first. First the lyrics. Don’t get me wrong, they are excellent, in a way. But for every strong double meaning there’s a weak corny bar to meet it. I’m fine with songs like Berserk getting corny, that part of the song. But with a song like this, where you’re declaring yourself a "rap god” you shouldn’t have lines like, "They say I rap like a robot so call me rapbot.” But don’t get me wrong, six minutes of strong lyricism, that takes some work, and I think he pulled it off. And that and there’s a section where the beat breaks down, and you hear  the beat break down differently and he rhymes boy a lot. I’m sorry, I could do without it, but there a line about how others getting a pat on the back from their label, and Em getting a hell yeah from Dre that I liked. Also, some people I’ve heard had a problem with Em, calling himself a "Rap God” but not nearly as much as I thought they would. I’m surprised how many people were cool with it. And in an interview he was talking about Kendrick’s verse, and how if you’re not trying to be the best, why try at all, and I thought that was more than enough for anyone to make a song titled this. And unless you count some dead people or guys like Jay-Z who probably wouldn’t ever make a song like this, (Unless Kanye was on the track, because he has no problem calling himself a God) Em was the guy to make this song. Anyway, let’s get to the good. First, the flow it’s a little incredible. It feels like you’re just getting slapped repeatedly with the beat and lyric after lyric, and it’s cool. It’s not that catchy, even the hook might as well just be more lyrics. Unlike Berserk and The Monster which might as well be the most catchy songs on the album. And normally a song six minutes long I wouldn’t finish, but I do. I can come up with enough visuals to make my own music video. Speaking of music videos, Rap God’s was the only one I can say I really liked from this album. The Monster still hasn’t gotten one,  (I kind of hope it doesn’t) Berserk was kind of boring, and Survival’s was pretty forgettable and unlikable. But this one was bad ass, I’m just not trying to watch a music video for six minutes that often. Anyway, Rap God is one of the better tracks from this album, and definitely was a strong single. It fit enough on the album, maybe because it was so diverse. But it kicked ass, and enough to be really enjoyable.

Rap God gets a 4/5
