The End Review

The End Review
(A Series of Unfortunate Events Book 13)
Author: Lemony Snicket
Year: 2006

Only one more to go. The End is the final book in the Series of Unfortunate Events, and to me is the very best one. I won’t spoil what happened, but the end of the last book really changed everything. Now Olaf and the orphans are in the same boat, literally. They’re soon shipwrecked and land on a island that isn’t so deserted. The island is inhabited by simple people who live simple lives, or so it seems. They are the only people who seem not blind to Olaf’s treachery, and refuse to have him among their people. But it seems everything eventually seems to shipwreck on the island’s shores. The people bring their findings to a man who pretty much discards it all away. Soon however the boat gets rocked, and things take a unfortunate turn for the worst. I remember first reading this and thinking it was so strange to ignore so much of the last twelve volumes, there were still so many things left to be unanswered. But besides maybe what the hell what was in the sugar bowl, everything that needed to be answered was, or was at least addressed. (Many questions in the series is left in the mist) Also the island actually has a large part of the Baudelaires past, and so do many items on the island. The island ironically although never even mentioned before, is the perfect place to close the book on this series. I also during the first read was hesitant to introduce new characters, as I thought the whole book might just be delivering answers to mysteries left and right. But none of the characters are bad, a new character named Ish (and yes, I will call him by his nickname!) is actually really rounded. The islanders I didn’t really like, Snicket acted like we were suppose to keep track on who was who, and which character did what. But they became a cluster of  boring to me, especially since some of them did one-eighties. Friday, her and her mom are basically the only ones I remember that well. But I remember my fondest memory of The End. I remember reading it at night, and I couldn’t put it down for the life of me. I remember just having to have like a reading marathon, and that thing carried on until like four a.m., and even though I had to wake up in two hours for school, I didn’t care, it was that good. And it just stuck in my mind with that oozy goodness whenever you finish a book series. I remember that moment very specifically, and it will probably be my favorite moment of the series, just being glued to the book which I hadn’t been with any of the others really. Anyway, onto the characters. Several characters do die in this book, and they do grow as they die. They grow tremendously actually. They have good endings, but not everyone dies. (Although nothing is for certain) But every character like the last one, is on top game. They like the last one have really fun dialogue, and it’s actually interesting one hundred percent of the time, mostly because it’s all important. But Klaus, Violet, and Sunny are there for one final bang, and they really hit. This is probably their best performance, and that’s kind of cool since with so much going on they actually were likable. Olaf also is their for his best show, and you learn more about him as well. But the series is not about the characters, I’ve said this enough before, although they are good they don’t carry the titles. It’s the mysteries, the trolling but just awesome writing from Snicket that will make you crack a smile, the moments, and the adventure of going through all this. And this book really captures something, something the other books really couldn’t. The morals start really getting their, the meanings are really there more than the other books, and the past, present, and even the future Daniel is trying to say is there but doesn’t have to be all come into a awesome finish. I still don’t know how he filled this into thirteen chapters, but I guess anything is possible. (Although check the back of the book, you might find a little extra something special) But somehow, even when I was a little wary, it comes to a finish that surpasses every other entry. I’ll make a series review going over the whole thing, but for now this is the last review from the series. This is the first series I did a review for every entry, and I have to say it was really an experience I hope to continue doing. So this is the end of the review for the end which is the end of the series of unfortunate events. Just so you know the end of the end is very good, and a wonderful end to the end of the series, and makes for a good end of a review in which saying the end can get very confusing. But for the end I’ll say the end of the end is worth getting to the end, which is what worth getting to the complete end. The end.
The End gets a 5/5
Spoilers: Oh, where to start. First I want to talk about the questions unanswered. So you’re telling me that everyone in the hotel, every islander, the Quagmires and Hector, and Fiona and her brother are all possibly dead? But they are all possibly alive too? That’s kind of a dick move for anyone who liked any side character whatsoever. But two people did die, and one is Olaf, who just so happened to be Kit’s daughter’s father. (Wasn’t completely confirmed, but I can take a hint. If it was Dewey, then so be it. But I like Olaf as the father, so there) Olaf’s end I thought could have been a tiny bit better, but I thought it was still really good. Also Kit died, which I actually hadn’t expected. And so the orphans became parents. Yes, Sunny, who is only a baby, is going to be a adoptive parent. Okay. But as weird as it sounds it all makes sense. And the end where we found out Beatrice is actually the orphans mother the whole time, and the child is named after her. I hadn’t expected any of that, so that was really cool. Then there was the big book called a series of unfortunate events, a literal book. Somehow it didn’t feel forced, it was actually pretty cool. Not to mention that the orphans themselves could be dead, as they could have sunk in the boat, so if you wanted to think this was a monopoly of dead people, go right on ahead. As for me I think the orphans lived, and everything else was just a maybe. And I loved the last part, where he added a chapter fourteen, but it was kind of hidden. It was worth it those who flipped a few extra pages.
